Make sure you're using the right C4D installation path. Make sure your TCP Port is set correctly and isn't conflicting. Going through the list again couldn't hurt! You mentioned already trying a number of these in your OP, but here's a troubleshooting checklist for this issue for anyone who may come across this in the future. Otherwise maybe check to see if you have any updates pending. If you're on Win 7 you could try that fix.
This issue goes back a few years so hard to say if this is helpful but this post points to this update as a fix in Windows 7. In particular I noticed some people saying things regarding a 'broken. In doing a quick google, I kept finding references to people getting help directly from the devs.

Look for a button in the bottom right labeled "Choose Installation Directory."Īre the paths in that window correct? Did you change them, maybe from a C4D Lite install to a full version of C4D? Perhaps try using the "Defaults" button in the bottom right to reset them to the versions included w/ AE just to rule out a variable. Navigate to the "Renderer" tab and choose "Cinema 4D." Click the options button to the right for a dialog window to pop up with some settings. To do this, make a new composition and open the composition settings. Please confirm that AE is looking at the correct C4D Install. Is this using the cineware effect or the Cinema 4D render engine inside of AE? Do you get the same error for both? What about working with C4D files? Are you able to import them/use "edit original" inside of AE or does the app crash the moment C4D becomes involved?Īs I'm sure you've gathered based on your troubleshooting steps it sounds like something is preventing AE and C4D from talking to one another.
